Dover police: Steep increase in crime in 2008

February 26, 2009 5:26:19 AM PST
Dover Police Chief Jeffrey Horvath says crime statistics for 2008 show a steep increase in crime and he expects the trend to continue as long as the economy is in trouble. Dover police say burglaries were up 68 percent and robberies were up 34 percent compared to 2007.

However, Horvath says they are able to catch many of the people who commit certain crimes. He says suspects were arrested in 60 percent of reported burglaries, compares to the national average of 12 percent.
