This girl's not afraid of bees

Lots of 16-year-old girls might go screaming at the sight of a swarm of bees.

But not Kellie Lenamond.

She's the East Texas Honey Queen.

She's also a beekeeper.

Kellie says she doesn't even wear protective gloves when working with her own bee hives.

Kellie says part of the attraction of bees is the "daredevil" aspect of handling stinging insects most people fear.

As the East Texas Beekeepers Association's Honey Queen, Kellie has a chance to compete for the state title.

She tells the Tyler Morning Telegraph it's more than a beauty pageant.

She says being the Honey Queen is a chance to educate the public about importance of bees to the ecosystem.
