Nutter asks tax board to resign

PHILADELPHIA - May 7, 2009 - Mayor Michael Nutter's announcement comes amid reports in The Philadelphia Inquirer that have raised questions about the management of the BRT and the accuracy of its assessments.

Nutter says he has asked the seven-member board to resign. His plans are still in the early stages; but he says he wants to get a new board appointed and reorganized under the city's finance department.

He says the culture of the board is unacceptable. Also on Thursday, three City Council members submitted legislation to reorganize the board.

A board spokesman says members plan to make a statement later in the day.
