Trooper facing charges found dead

SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - May 27, 2009 State police said 32-year-old Cpl. Joshua Giddings was found in a shed at his Smyrna home early Tuesday evening, the apparent victim of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Giddings had been suspended from the force and was facing charges of sexual extortion, misconduct and bribery stemming from a shoplifting arrest he made in March at Christiana Mall in Newark.

The female suspect alleged that Giddings told her that he would not take her to court if she performed a sexual favor, and drove her a nearby location where the sex act occurred.

Investigators say DNA found in clothing provided by the woman matched Giddings' DNA.
