Teen charged in fake kidnapping

NEWARK, Del. - June 16, 2009 The 13 year-old female who made a fictitious report of a kidnapping and attempted sexual assault on June 9 has been charged with a criminal offense.

On June 15, the juvenile was arrested on one count of Falsely Reporting an Incident.

Investigators tell Action News they noticed discrepancies in the teen's story and when they confronted the teen she admitted making up the story.

The girl told police that she was walking through the rear of the Pathmark parking lot in the 100 block of College Square around 5:15 p.m. on June 9, when the man forced her into a car.

Police say the girl told investigators that the man tried to sexually assault her as he drove. But she escaped and ran to a nearby Boston Market where she screamed for help.

The teen was released to her parents on an unsecured bond of $1,000 with several conditions, including pre-trial supervision, a mental health assessment, and a 6:00 p.m. curfew.
