A Monmouth County woman has been crowned Miss New Jersey. Ashley Shaffer of Millstone Township won the title Saturday night at the Ocean City Music Pier, beating out 24 other contestants. Ashleigh Udalovas, a 21-year-old Millville resident, was the first runner-up.

The 22-year-old Shaffer will now compete in the Miss America Pageant, scheduled for Jan. 30 in Las Vegas.

"I have no idea what's going on right now," the visibly shaking winner said while posing with her crown on and holding a bouquet of red roses. "I'm going to Miss America! I can't believe it!"

Shaffer - who performed a piece from Giacomo Puccini's opera "Turandot" during the talent portion - succeeds last year's winner, Ashley Fairfield of Egg Harbor Township.
