Plane makes safe emergency landing at BWI

LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) - June 26, 2009 Jonathan Dean, spokesman for Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, said the plane landed safely about 10 p.m. Friday. Dean said a precautionary alert was declared for airport fire and rescue crews to meet the flight when it landed.

Southwest spokesman Paul Flanigan says Flight 3858 was carrying 125 passengers. He says flight attendants reported seeing smoke in the rear cabin.

Flanigan says the plane was taken out of service so mechanics can inspect it, and passengers were to fly to Philadelphia on another aircraft.
