Wisconsin police began investigating in May when a man called police in Stevens Point, Wis., about a counterfeit check sent to him for a car he was selling online.
Instructions with the check - worth more than the car - said part of the extra payment was for the man's trouble and the rest should be sent to Tena Abernathy. But no one came for the car, and the check was counterfeit.
Police allege Moore and Abernathy used compromised credit cards to make online purchases affecting Wisconsin, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky residents.
