Camden group searches for city's ugliest house

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - July 29, 2009 Camden Churches Organized for People says its anti-beauty contest is designed to call attention to the persistent problem of abandoned homes in a city that ranks as one of the nation's poorest.

Ballots featuring 13 apparently abandoned structures have been distributed to churches and a community development organization in the Cramer Hill neighborhood.

Contest organizers say some of the structures have had multiple fires and severe vandalism yet are left standing. Some become hangouts for drug addicts.
