NJ police car in violent crash

HAMILTON TWP., N.J. - September 24, 2009 It happened around 8:44 a.m. at the intersection of E. State Street and Nottingham Way in Hamilton Township.

Police say Officer Thomas Clugsten was driving southbound on E. State St. responding to a domestic violence call with the emergency lights and siren on.

At the intersection of Nottingham Way, Clugsten collided with a Mazda operated by Milton Sarmiento, who was driving east on Nottingham Way.

Officer Clugsten was taken to the hospital for injuries to his neck, back, shoulder and hand.

Sarmiento was being treated for injuries to his neck, back and shoulder.

There were no other occupants in the vehicles.

The crash is being investigated by the Hamilton Police Division's Internal Affairs Unit.
