Fmr. Philly worker charged in cell phone theft

PHILADELPHIA - October 8, 2009 Mona Lamberson was arrested and is facing a number of charges.

Investigators say Lamberson stole 28 cell phones and Blackberrys and sold them to eight other city employees, family and friends. In fact, police charge that Lamberson was paid on a monthly basis for the phones, and each one was used extensively.

The unauthorized use cost the city $30,000, investigators say, but if it had not been for the city's discounted rate, the cost would have topped nearly $135,000.

Once authorities began their investigation, Lamberson is acused of telling those with the illegal phones to deny any knowledge of them and to throw them away.
