Police have charged a man with assaulting a state police horse by pushing the animal when it was used to keep the peace after homecoming festivities at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Police say 37-year-old Reed Ciotti, of Indiana, Pa., pushed the horse then grabbed the animal's reins when police asked Ciotti to move out of the area while they dealt with another incident. Police say this all incident happened about 1:35 a.m. Sunday.

Ciotti was taken to the Indiana County Jail on charges including assault on a police animal and resisting arrest but has posted bond and is now free.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Ciotti, who did not immediately return a call to a telephone listed in his name.
