Twenty-six-year-old Jose Omar Mendez is facing 10 to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced Monday. He was convicted in October of manslaughter in the February 2008 shooting death of 15-year-old Teven Rutledge.
Prosecutors had argued for first-degree murder for Mendez. Authorities say he returned with a gun and shot Rutledge in the head following an earlier confrontation over a snowball fight.
Mendez says he fired in self-defense after being threatened with a knife.
