Mrs. Fixit:Replace A Toilet Seat

January 23, 2010

Before you go to pick up a new seat check the length and width of your current seat - and whether it's oval or round. This way there won't be repeated trips to the store.

Close the toilet lid and open the caps at the back of the seat that hold the seat onto the ceramic bowl.

Loosen and remove the nuts that hold the seat in place. If the bolts seem to be stuck some lubricating oil should loosen them right up.

Remove the seat and give the whole toilet a good cleaning.

Install any rubber gaskets or washers that came with the seat and then slip the new bolts through the holes in the seat

.

Tighten the retaining nuts, just make sure that you don't over tighten or you could crack the bowl.

That's all there is to it, a new toilet seat in no time flat! I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple!
