Gun-toting robbers strike two weeks in a row

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - February 4, 2010

Video surveillance caught them in action.

Two young men with their faces concealed.

They terrorize the woman behind the counter, one of them, pointing a handgun in her face.

The other is armed with a powerful tech 9 semi automatic.

"The weapon itself is a tech 9. It's got a very large capacity. It's a serious weapon and this female store clerk was all by herself," Lt. Frank Vanore of the Philadelphia Police said.

The robbers force her to open the cash drawer and then stuff $600 into plastic bags they brought with them.

It happened at the A & E grocery at 13th and Porter last Friday night.

The previous Friday night, police believe the same two bandits got $300 from another grocery store on the 1400 block of Jackson Street.

Both stores are in South Philadelphia.

In the video, the robber in the black vest wielding the handgun is described as a white man in his early 20's.

The clerk was able to see that he had black eyebrows.

The other with the tech 9 is heavy set and was wearing a distinctive jacket with a fur lined hood and the logo "Akademiks" across the back.

The police are hoping to hear from anyone who might know someone with that particular jacket.

They are hoping people will be on the lookout, especially Friday night.

So far no one has been hurt, but police are worried their luck might run out with these two packing serious fire power.
