Missing woman found dead in alley

WISSINOMING - February 20, 2010

According to Donna McDonald's fiancé Stephen Hackney, Donna went missing the day after Valentine's Day.

On that day, Hackney says he pulled over to remove a shovel in rear of his vehicle that was blocking his view and that's when he said Donna said she needed matches for her cigarettes.

"And I sarcastically said, you keep walking three blocks, you'll find a Wawa, being sarcastic. She started walking. I waited in the car for a few minutes. I mean, that wasn't a fight," Hackney said.

Hackney says he drove to the Wawa, but never found Donna. He assumed she went to a friend's.

The next day, he says he went to a police station only to be told to wait and then call 911, but according to him police didn't speak with him until Wednesday.

On Saturday, while driving around searching for her, he happened to see police in an alley off of Vankirk Street, four blocks from Donna's home. A medical examiner had been called after a homeowner spotted Donna's body while walking her dog. Hackney approached an officer and told his story; he was then asked to take a closer look.

"Her coat was off…I didn't stare at her face long, I just know it was her," Hackney said.

Neighbors say they haven't been using the alley since the snowstorm and were parking on the street instead, so no one knows how long Donna Mcdonald's body was lying in the snow.

Police do not suspect foul play and say only an autopsy will give them the answers they need, but an investigator says there were no signs of trauma on the body.
