Van slams into pole after colliding with trooper

CHRISTIANA, Del. - March 18, 2010

It happened on Salem Church Road near Christiana Woods Drive in Christiana.

Police say a 2004 Buick Rendezvous was traveling northbound on Salem Church Road. A Delaware State Police Dodge Pick-up was traveling behind the Buick. The Buick moved to the right turn lane, which leads into the Christiana Fire Company. The DSP pick-up continued northbound, when suddenly, the Buick executed a U-turn, turning directly into the Dodge resulting in the crash.

The mini van collided with the pickup truck, then slammed into a pole.

The Buick was operated by 18-year-old Aracelis Rosita Cabazza of Newark, Delaware. Elizabeth Staz, 18, of Newark, was a passenger in the van. Both were trapped inside the vehicle for a half an hour.

Luckily, both occupants in the van as well as the officer suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Charges are pending the results of a blood test to determine if alcohol was a factor in this crash.

This was the second officer involved crash on Wednesday. Yesterday morning, a crash occurred on I-95 at Marsh Road that sent two Troopers to Wilmington Hospital.
