Quaid: End medical errors that nearly killed twins

WASHINGTON (AP) - April 14, 2010

In 2007, while they were at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Thomas and Zoe Quaid were accidently given two doses of the adult blood thinner Heparin that's 1,000 times stronger than the pediatric version.

Quaid says mistakes like these kill 100,000 people a year. He called it a preventable problem.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Quaid says one way to prevent these mistakes is to raise awareness of the problem. He says even health care workers don't know how widespread it is.
