3 suspects charged in home invasions

EXTON, Pa. - April 17, 2010 37-year-old Gerson Amanzio Souza, 25-year-old Raphael Lopez de Almeida and 22-year-old Nancy Plummer were arraigned Saturday in Exton District Court.

The trio, from Northeast Philadelphia, is charged with burglarizing homes in East Goshen and Westtown Townships.

The most recent break-in and the one that led to their arrest happened on Remote Lake Drive in Westtown Township on Friday.

"It's a quiet neighborhood there are a lot of children here and we just have a quiet way of life here and we just don't expect things like this to happen," said Chris Feryo.

Police said an alarm at the house went off and a teal Ford Taurus was seen leaving the area. Police spotted it and made the arrests.

According to the probable cause affidavit two of the suspects admitted breaking in and fleeing when the alarm went off.

Residents said they are breathing a bit easier.

"I'm thrilled about it especially since our neighborhood is affected by it," said Anthony Venditti.

"I feel great about this I can't believe it's happening here where it's so isolated from everything," said Nick Iorio.

Police from the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Department believe the three may be responsible for stealing jewelry, computers, TVs and other electronics from as many as eight homes since December and some items that were recovered at several Philadelphia addresses.

The three are charged with burglary, theft, conspiracy and related offenses and they're held on $100,000 bail each.

Federal authorities say two of the suspects, de Almeida and Souza, are illegal's from Brazil.

Philadelphia detectives are also involved in the probe to see if the trio is responsible for any burglaries in the city.
