Philly's tax amnesty program gets under way

PHILADELPHIA - May 3, 2010

The city's tax amnesty program is getting under way Monday and lasts until June 25. Under the terms of the program, all penalties and half the interest owed will be waived for those who pay up.

Property and business privilege taxes are among those eligible for the program. Revenue commissioner Keith Richardson says the city hopes the program will bring in about $30 million.

The state is offering a similar amnesty program. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue says it has brought in $12 million since starting on April 26. That program runs through June 18.
