The Fish and Game Department says 24-year-old Christopher Baillie of Forked River, in Ocean County New Jersey, was hiking along the Tuckerman Ravine trail in New Hampshire with four other people at about 5 p.m. Sunday when he tumbled 100 to 200 feet down the waterfall.
Rescue personnel from the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), US Forest Service and New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded to the accident. The first rescuers to reach Baillie quickly confirmed that he was dead. Officials told the New Hampshire Union Leader the man was dead at the scene.
His identification was withheld until his family was notified.
