Mrs Fixit: Washers & Dryers

July 24, 2010 -

For a while I wondered what all of the hype was with the high efficiency front loan washers and dryers, but when faced with a smaller laundry room that I was used to, I jumped on board - and now I have some tips to help you out with yours.

First off, make sure that you can choose only high efficiency rated detergents. These specially formulated soaps are low sudsing which is important because these washers use less water than their counterparts and can't handle tons of suds.

Never leave a load of wet laundry in front of a front load washer for an extended period of time. The moisture can cause mold and mildew to form around the seal.

An easy way to prevent any musty seal problems is to wipe the seal with a washcloth and warm water after a cycle.

Then, leave the door and detergent dispensers open after you've removed a load of laundry until they completely dry.

Also, if your washer has a cleaning cycle -- don't think it's optional, run it through the cycle as often as recommended, it removes detergent residue and keeps your washer running in great condition.

Remember to read the manual that comes with your machine to keep it in top top condition. I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple!
