DA: More remains found in Reading apartment

READING, Pa. - August 12, 2010

Earlier this week, it was revealed that detectives allegedly found human remains in two containers in a closet in Michelle Kalina's apartment in Reading.

Now, investigators say they've discovered more body parts in a third container.

According to police reports, the third container was two feet by three feet in size and filled with cement.

On July 29, detectives searched Kalina's apartment in Berkshire Towers in the 700 block of Court Street.

They say they found two containers that immediately appeared to contain human remains.

Investigators say forensic teams used an x-ray to examine the third container that cement-filled box, and found an unknown mass inside.

Careful chipping away of the cement revealed what detectives say are similar human remains.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday on the most recent discovery.

Forensic experts believe the first two sets of remains are from babies ranging in age from 20 weeks in gestation to almost one month old.

Michele Kalina is charged with two counts of abuse of corpse. As the investigation moves forward, the district attorney has said more charges are possible.

She is being held on $5 million bail.
