Petty Officer 3rd Class Denis Miranda will be laid to rest at Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River.
The 24-year-old was among nine Americans who died when the chopper went down in southern Afghanistan on Sept. 21. It was the worst coalition helicopter crash in Afghanistan in four years.
The cause was not immediately clear. NATO said there were no reports of enemy fire at the time in the Daychopan district of Zabul province, where the crash took place.
The Asbury Park Press reports Miranda had proposed to his girlfriend of three years the night before he left for his tour of duty on Sept. 12.
