Philly-to-Montco police chase caught on camera

A police chase that led officers from Philadelphia to Montgomery County was caught on PennDOT's network of cameras.

A man is hospitalized after leading police on a high speed chase that began in Philadelphia and ended in Montgomery County.

PennDOT traffic cameras picked up the pursuit along westbound I-76 just west of the City Avenue interchange around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver of a dark colored van travelled westbound around the Conshohocken curve then north onto I-476.

After speeding through the EZ Pass lanes at the Mid-County interchange, the driver headed north along the northeast extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

As the driver approached the Lansdale interchange, he lost control and flipped the van.

A medical helicopter was dispatched and the man, who is believed to have been the lone occupant, was airlifted to Abington Hospital for treatment.

There is no word yet on his condition. There is also no word on why the man was being sought.

The accident resulted in a traffic backlog of about a mile and a half.
