Corbett makes William Ryan acting Pa. AG

HARRISBURG, Pa. - January 19, 2011

When Tom Corbett took the oath as governor Tuesday, it left a vacancy in the attorney general's post. By law, Chief Deputy Attorney General William Ryan Jr. was automatically promoted to acting attorney general pending Corbett's nomination of a candidate to complete the two years left in his term.

Spokesman Nils Fredericksen said Wednesday that Ryan is meeting with senior staff members to ensure a smooth transition and that all pending investigations, including the probe of alleged corruption in the Legislature, remain active.

Ryan has served in the attorney general's office since 1997. Before that, he was elected to two terms as district attorney of Delaware County.
