Arrest made in Cinnaminson cemetery thefts

CINNAMINSON, N.J. - March 1, 2011

Samuel V. Iacono, 40, of the 100 block of Garfield Avenue in Chesilhurst, N.J., is charged with one count each of Theft and Criminal Mischief in relation to the theft and desecration from gravesites at Lakeview Cemetery.

At least 18 bronze grave markers were stolen on at least three occasions back in January.

Police say Iacono was identified through a vehicle spotted leaving the scene. The vehicle involved was a 1997 black Ford Explorer with NJ tag number YMP47K.

Two other suspects are still being sought in this crime.

As for the stolen nameplates, police say they were taken to a scrap yard in Philadelphia and were immediately melted down.

The bronze markers are worth between $1,000 and $2,000 a piece and police suspect the grave robbers may be drug addicts selling them for scrap metal.
