Philadelphia police officer arrested

Philadelphia Police Officer John King, was arrested for an incident on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, inside Mercy Hospital located at 5301 Cedar Avenue.

Philadelphia Police Officer John King, was arrested today for an incident on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, inside Mercy Hospital located at 5301 Cedar Avenue.

Police say Officer King, who was off duty, was in an argument with a Mercy Hospital employee. It escalated and eventually King pulled his gun and pointed it at the employee.

After an investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau and the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, King was charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Terroristic Threats, Intimidation and other related offenses.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey has suspended King for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.

King is 54- years old and a 14- year veteran of the Department, assigned to the 12th District.
