NJ gets $39M from health insurance overhaul

WOODLAND PARK, N.J. - March 14, 2011

And the state's administration says it's pursuing another $40 million from the fund set up to reimburse employers and labor unit benefit funds some of the costs of providing health insurance for early retirees.

Businesses and public entities can apply for the money, which was put in place in last year's massive health care law as a way to encourage insurance for retirees who are too young to qualify for Medicare coverage.

Among state governments, only California has received more, according to a report in The record of Woodland Park.

Still, Christie says the broader changes have hamstrung states and could be unconstitutional.
