Penn St says NYC meeting not costly

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - March 16, 2011

School spokeswoman Lisa Powers tells the Centre Daily Times that the school received donated services and good hotel rates made possible by a friend of the university.

The school and Gov. Tom Corbett have been at odds since the governor last week proposed slashing funding on higher education by $644 million, including a more than 50 percent reduction for the 18 state-supported universities and colleges including Penn State.

The Tribune-Review in Pittsburgh last week reported that Corbett during a news conference questioned why Penn State was holding a meeting in New York if the school was complaining about budget cuts.
