Police search for suspect in pizza shop robbery

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - April 23, 2011

Robbers broke into Aldo's Pizzarama on Bustleton Avenue around 9:00am Saturday, stole the cash register and sped off down Byberry Road.

"They took the cash register, broke the doors," said the owner of Aldo's Pizzarama, Omar Elsheikh.

The door from the morning robbery at Aldo's Pizzarama has since been fixed, but not before the damage was captured on film.

The owner of the Northeast Philadelphia pizza shop says they were closed and empty at 9:00am when the robbers hit.

"If somebody was there it would have been worse," said Omar Elsheikh. "Thank god nobody was here."

Authorities explain the suspects broke in and stole the cash register with $300 inside and fled.

The trio was spotted by a next-door business who alerted authorities.

"The damage is more than money took, another $5,600 too," said Omar.

Police caught up with the suspects, and a chase ensued, ending with two cars colliding near Byberry and Bent Roads in Lower Moreland.

The suspects' car hit a tree, and employees explain the two women trapped in the backseat were apprehended.

A third suspect, a man, fled with the cash.

The now-broken register was recovered, but the bills were gone.

The pizza shop is back in operation with a new register, and grateful for their loyal customers.

"The whole neighborhood, they were worried about it. Thank God everybody loves Aldos," said Atef Jelassi.
