Woman shot in South Philadelphia

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - May 10, 2011

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., police began receiving several calls about a woman being shot on the 1800 block of South 23rd Street.

Police and medics arrived to find a wounded woman.

It was determined she was either shot or injured by a flying concrete chip. The chip would have been the result of gunfire along the block.

The 50-year-old woman was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for treatment of a gunshot wound to the lower abdominal region.

Police are searching for the shooter.
