Local sailor sends message home from carrier

ABOARD THE USS GEORGE WASHINGTON - July 2, 2011

That includes people like U.S. Navy Petty Officer Paul Dowdy, who is among the 4,400 sailors serving on the U.S.S. George Washington.

Dowdy, from Harleysville, Pa., is an electrician's mate, with the daunting task of keeping the ship's power up and running.

Action News spoke with Dowdy by phone as the George Washington sailed in the China Sea. Dowdy said he loves his job and his time aboard the ship.

"I enjoy every bit of what I do on the ship. Every day is a different adventure for me," Dowdy said.

Dowdy also recorded a message for his family. If you'd like to see it, click on the above video.
