Letter raises questions about cuts to kids' center

TRENTON, N.J. - August 4, 2011

On July 18, Christie announced that $537,000 in federal funds would be redirected to the Wynona Lipman Child Advocacy Center. Advocates for the center said it would close without the money, which amounts to 75 percent of its budget.

But a letter Christie's administration sent to the center in July calls into question whether the governor knew there were federal funds available at the time of the budget cuts, and if he did, why he didn't tell the center or lawmakers?

A spokesman for Christie said the letter doesn't change anything and the center was never in danger.
