Another member of Philly school board steps down

PHILADELPHIA - October 20, 2011

Denise McGregor Armbrister resigned from the School Reform Commission on Wednesday. She is the third member of the panel to step down in the last month.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Armbrister released a statement citing the need for a complete makeover of the commission as a reason for her resignation. She says her departure will allow new members to quickly take leadership and focus on helping the district improve.

A state Department of Education spokesman says Gov. Tom Corbett will nominate a replacement soon.

Former commission chairman Robert Archie Jr. and another member resigned in September. A city investigator's report just after Archie resigned blasted him for favoring a politically-connected firm's effort to take over a school.
