Bucks Co. tour bus fire under investigation

LEVITTOWN, Pa. - January 7, 2012

Fire broke out just before 6:00pm Saturday night in the bus yard of Lion Tours Bus service in the 300 block of Penn Avenue in Levittown.

There was one burned out charter bus after another in the parking lot on Penn Avenue in Levittown Saturday night.

Investigators believe five buses and a yellow transport belonging to Lion Tours and Trailways were set on fire.

C.J. Pearil was near his home when he saw the fire.

"As soon as I turned the corner, I saw the lights and immediately saw the flames. It was amazing. It was a huge flame, I was like oh my god what's going on," said C.J. Pearil.

The buses were also burning near the Amtrak train tracks which caused a slowdown in train travel in that area.

The fire broke out near the Edgerly Fire Department who quickly responded to the blaze.

"We had a pretty quick knock down," said Chief Carl Pierce. "It was about a 25 minute knockdown, but as you can see we are still in the process in knocking down hotspots."

This was the second fire on the property is less than a year. More than 6 months ago, a fire ripped through the Lion Tours building. That incident is still under investigation.

"As soon as I looked out of the window, you could see the flames coming out of the building, and we were like oh my goodness, this is crazy," said Pearil.

Neighbors say even before the building was boarded up after the fire, Lion Tours and Trailways appeared to be out of business. They have not seen anyone working in the area in a few years.

The buses were abandoned, and the phone number on the back of the buses has been disconnected.

Neighbors are concerned about the suspicious nature of the fires.

"When you think about it, it's so close, it's right across the street," said Pearil. "You never know what can happen as far as someone coming over here starting a fire or one in the neighborhood."

Police and the fire marshal are looking for tips in the investigation. They are asking anyone with information to call the Bristol Township Police Department.
