Authorities say the 77-year-old man was hit by a car at Henry Avenue and School House Lane around 6:30 p.m.
The impact shattered the windshield of the striking vehicle.
The driver stopped at the scene.
Chopper 6 was over the scene as paramedics worked to stabilize the man who was surrounded by security guards from nearby Philadelphia University.
"I was running down the street and as I came around the corner, this car had already stopped and the gentleman was rolling over the front and it's unfortunate," jogger Brian Harris of Germantown said.
Harris says an officer and others rushed to help the man.
"Thinking it was under control, I kept going and I felt bad the rest of my run so I came back to check on him," Harris said.
But unfortunately he learned the victim had died from his injuries at Temple University Hospital.
The driver of the car that hit the elderly man stood and watched while investigators worked the scene.
"I think it's a pretty dangerous intersection, honestly, because there are a lot of accidents here," Philadelphia University student Matthew Otricelli said.
Accident investigations didn't have statistics readily available for the intersection, but East Falls did form a committee in 2005 to combat the problem.
It's also trying to convince local and state leaders to help them make their streets safer.
A police officer is at the intersection during rush hour, but University students say it doesn't seem to slow down drivers.
"I definitely make sure I check a couple of times, because sometimes people will slow down, but they will just keep going, so you have to watch it," student Loriann Nic said.
No names have been released in this fatal accident.
