Parenting: Hooray for recess!

First, the study in the Netherlands, reported by Time Magazine. Time says the researchers looked at data from more than a dozen studies on physical activity and academic performance involving children. The researchers found a correlation between more active students and good grades, particularly in math, English and reading.

In the second study, which was reported by the New York Times, researchers at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan found that college students who huff, puff and move their bodies to better fitness also tended to do better in school.

Why is this?

The Times says this may have something to do with a student's personal work ethics. Those ethics tend to be the same whether it is in the classroom, or outside the classroom in terms of taking care of oneself and being healthy.

Time Magazine notes that physical activity can actually "feed" the brain with nourishment, mainly in the form of blood, which can help with memory, creativity and attentiveness.
