The woman, whose name was not released, became trapped around 9:20 a.m. Sunday at the 9th Street-Congress Street station on the border of Jersey City and Hoboken.
New Jersey Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder tells The Jersey Journal that the elevator doors didn't open because the elevator floor and the platform didn't align. A safety feature stops the doors from opening under such circumstances, so people don't trip or fall.
The woman used a call box to contact NJ Transit police, and Jersey City firefighters soon responded to the scene. They were able to quickly pry open the elevator doors and free the woman, who wasn't injured.
