Montco DA investigating police-involved shooting

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Pa. - April 10, 2012

It was around 5:35 p.m. when officers responded to a report of an attempted vehicle break-in on Biddle Woods Lane in the Wyndmoor section.

District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said a homeowner called 911 after finding an unknown man in his driveway trying to get into a parked car. The homeowner shouted at the man, who fled to the backyard.

Springfield Township Police were called and arrived to find the man, who then tried to enter a marked patrol vehicle. The officers ordered the man to get out of the vehicle and, as he did, police say the man started to attack the officers.

The man punched one officer in the face then wrestled with another officer, allegedly trying to remove his gun from the holster.

The other officer fired a single shot, the D.A. said, hitting the suspect in the abdomen. That man was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The officers were treated and released for minor injuries.

The name of the suspect in this case has not been released.
