Lawyer: Sex-tourism suspect killed himself

PHILADELPHIA - April 17, 2012

The attorney for John Charles Ware says his client was pronounced dead early Monday morning after being found unresponsive at a federal detention facility.

Ware was scheduled to plead guilty to federal charges on Monday. He was charged last year with abusing two children he took to Italy and Iceland for their birthdays.

Ware was a grandson of the late John H. Ware 3d, a businessman who served in Congress and the state Senate. He worked for a family foundation supporting nonprofits around Oxford, Chester County.

Defense attorney Chris Hoey tells the Daily Local News Ware had seemed optimistic about his sentencing.
