School meals delivery truck stolen in Philadelphia

TIOGA-NICETOWN - April 27, 2012

A Maramont crew had just finished making a delivery at Edward Steel Elementary in Tioga-Nicetown just before the school bell Friday morning. The delivery workers walked back to the rear loading area, looked around, and the truck was gone.

They were left standing with their two dollies, dumbfounded.

So the big question is, why would someone steal a delivery truck with an obvious sign on the side, filled with 11 deliveries worth of school breakfasts and lunches? Your guess is as good as anyone else's.

"It's food for children!" said neighborhood resident Edith Reaves. "That's horrible. That is horrible."

The workers wouldn't say if they left the keys inside their truck, but those investigating suspect that.

Luckily, the meals were for Monday, so no students went hungry on Friday.

And Maramont intended to fulfill their food deliveries before the day was done.

Meantime, the search continues for the stolen truck. Police are on the lookout for a 2005 International model, with Pennsylvania tags YRC- 0013.

Anyone who sees it is asked to call Philadelphia Police, or 911.
