It started just after midnight along the 600 block of Franklin Place.
Officers on patrol nearby heard gunfire break out and responded to the scene.
They encountered a man who they say pointed a gun towards them. Police fired several shots but missed.
The suspect fled into a home on the 700 block of Wallace Street where he refused to come out.
A standoff ensured and the SWAT team was also called in. After an hour, authorities went inside and the gunman was taken into custody.
No injuries were reported during the incident and police continue to investigate.
