University of Delaware cop allegedly harassed student

NEWARK, Del. - May 2, 2012

The Newark Police Department arrested 31-year-old Demetrius Sharp of Kennett Square, Pa. on Wednesday after he turned himself in.

The investigation began on February 21st when, police say, a 21-year-old female student reported that she was being harassed by Sharp.

The student said she was involved in a relationship with Sharp, which ended on February 18th. Soon after, the student said, she began receiving harassing text, email and voice messages from Sharp.

In addition, the victim said, Sharp would park outside her home while on duty and shine a spotlight from his patrol vehicle into her windows.

Sharp is charged with three counts of Harassment and one count of Official Misconduct. He has been released on $4,000 unsecured bond.

Sharp has been placed on administrative leave by the University of Delaware Police.
