Great warm weather workouts for you

May 3, 2012 First we tackled Krav Maga at the Aquatic Fitness Center in Bala Cynwyd. It's the intense self-defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces, a hard core, sweat-drenched, shout-fest with a kick of stress relief.

"It literally means contact combat," explained Ernie Kirk, Master Instructor at Premier Martial Arts. "You're using your whole body, we're doing elbows, kicks, we're doing fatigue drills."

Krav Maga first works you to fatigue and then puts your reflexes to the test as you practice the pointed techniques in simulated scenarios.

Frustrated with normal gym routines, WMMR Morning Show Host, Preston Elliot found his slim down inspiration while sharpening his street fighting skills.

"Immediately I was like this is a lot of fun, this is really cool, this is me, I'm not even thinking about the fact that I'm working out right now," he described.

Preston shed 60 pounds in one year and now trains 5 to 6 days a week! Even our own Rick Williams gets in on the action.

And if you think the guys are tough, don't mess with the ladies!

If Krav Maga is too extreme for you why not try something more serene but still seriously challenging.

Students at MOYO studio in Skippack are flipping for Unnata Aerial Yoga.

"The hammocks are used to provide a sense of weightlessness," said studio owner Maureen Priest.

Because the body is supported, students can achieve deeper stretches and learn proper alignment without the ability to cheat.

Flipping over was scary at first but defying gravity was liberating!

"It allows you to release some muscle tension and create length in the spine," said Maureen.

And if some traditional yoga poses are hard for you, this might help. Pat Setley, of Collegeville, has chronic wrist problems.

"Having the hammock as a prop allows me to do some of the poses that I couldn't do," she said.

Back upright, we pop on our helmets and hit the roads on the ElliptiGO!

"It kind of combines the best of running, cycling, the indoor elliptical trainer," said Andrew Leshik of Leisure Fitness.

We took one for a spin at the store's Bryn Mawr location.

"Everything up top here is just like a regular bike," Andrew explained.

The ElliptiGO was designed by a 33-year-old man who loved to run but had bad knees.

"Instead of taking the pounding every time you lift and plant your foot, you're now going to be doing it on a low impact platform," Andrew said.

ElliptiGO's creator said you burn 33-percent more calories a minute riding these wheels than your run-of-the-mill bike.

"If you can ride a regular bike you can ride an ElliptiGO," Andrew said.

The ElliptiGO is an investment. The starting price is 18-hundred dollars, aerial yogo at MOYO Studio runs 20-dollars a class. And Krav Maga with Premier Martial Arts runs about one-hundred dollars for a month of unlimited classes.
