Police: Driver shot before dying in fiery Delco crash

LANSDOWNE, Pa - May 7, 2012

It was around 1:30 p.m. yesterday when police were dispatched to the 200 Block of N. Maple Avenue for the report of shots fired and a vehicle into a garage.

When responding officers made it to the scene they found the vehicle had burst into flames upon impact and flames had spread to the garage.

After firefighters brought the flames under control, police went in to investigate the car. Inside the vehicle they found the badly burned remains a male victim.

According to officials, the victim had been shot when the car crashed. The body was kept in the car when taken to the medical examiner's office due to the severity of the burns.

Lansdowne Police Chief Daniel Kortan tells Action News that this is still an on-going investigation but it is being investigated as a homicide.

Investigators are still working on trying to identify the victim.

One person was inside the home at the time of the accident but was able to escape without injury. Neighboring residents were also evacuated as a precaution.
