True or False: Summer myths debunked

A popular myth is that you can catch poison ivy from someone else.

The reality is that the rash comes from being exposed to the oil of the plant but if it's on tools, gloves, clothes or even your pets - you could pick it up.

Some people believe that tanning beds can protect your skin from the sun's damaging rays is just that. That too is false - in fact it offers no protection at all.

Remember when mom said wait 30 minutes before swimming after you eat? In this case, mom is right.

"The digestive process requires blood flow to the stomach. If you distract your stomach by exercising and leading the blood flow to the muscles instead, you might get some stomach cramps," said Dr. John Dooley,

Everyone knows the legendary tale that if you eat watermelon seeds, one will sprout inside your stomach.

Well rest assured that this is a myth as well and a few stray seeds won't hurt you.

Doctors say the best advice to summertime myths is to simply use common sense.
