Amtrak train hits, kills person on tracks in NJ

EDISON, N.J. (AP) - July 28, 2012

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham says the accident occurred just before 3:50 p.m. Saturday, near the Edison station in Middlesex County. She said information on the person killed could not be immediately disclosed because the accident remained under investigation.

Graham said 215 passengers were aboard the southbound Northeast Regional train, which was operating between New York City and Richmond, Va. She said no one aboard the train was injured.

The accident forced the closure of some tracks in the area for more than an hour, causing delays for some Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains on the Northeast Corridor. But those delays were expected to subside by early Saturday night.
