Thousands without power as storms move through NJ

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - September 8, 2012

Most of the outages were in northern Jersey, which was hardest hit by the line of storms that contained damaging winds, hail and heavy rain. The storms downed trees and damaged power lines, but no serious injuries were reported.

Forecasters say the storms will continue until late Saturday night, with 1 to 2 inches of rain expected statewide. Severe thunderstorm warnings were in effect for many areas Saturday night, while northern counties were under a tornado watch

Jersey Central Power and Light said roughly 8,000 customers had no electricity early Saturday night, while roughly 9,000 PSE&G customers had no service. It wasn't known when all the affected customers would have their power restored.
