The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Monday first reported the court order that allows the Butler Area School District and the South Butler County School District to arm their officers.
And Butler Area Superintendent Michael Strutt tells The Associated Press that his 7,500-student district about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh has an armed officer in each of its 11 elementary and three secondary schools on Monday.
That district's board voted Dec. 10 to being a months-long process to arm its police. But Strutt says the district got the court order to "expedite the process" after the Connecticut shooting.
